Goa's Mandovi Jetties & Campal Lighthouse: A Rs 6.6 Cr Glow-Up (Finally!)

A scenic view of the Campal lighthouse and jetties along the Mandovi river in Panaji, Goa.

Another day, another infrastructure project announcement! At a cool Rs 6.6 crore, Panaji's two Mandovi jetties and the venerable Campal lighthouse are getting a much-needed 'modernisation' – which, let's be honest, often translates to 'we're fixing what should have worked perfectly for decades.' One can only hope this isn't just a fresh coat of paint over crumbling ambition, but a genuine investment that stands the test of time, tides, and tourist expectations. After all, a lighthouse that looks good but can't guide a boat is just a very expensive Instagram backdrop.

The Captain of Ports (CoP) department has indeed greenlit this significant Rs 6.6 crore project aimed at comprehensive restoration and modernisation. The initiative targets two crucial jetties situated along the Mandovi river, alongside the iconic Campal lighthouse. This project is expected to enhance both the operational efficiency of the jetties for maritime activities and the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the lighthouse, solidifying its role as a vital navigational aid and a local landmark.
