Grok Glitches and Personal Pains: Elon Musk's xAI Hit With Deepfake Lawsuit

You'd think a company founded by Elon Musk, a man who tweets about everything from Mars colonization to meme coins, would have a tighter leash on its AI's creative interpretations – especially when those interpretations involve turning personal photos into deepfake bikinis. It seems Grok’s 'unfiltered' approach extends beyond just snarky replies, venturing into seriously problematic territory. Perhaps xAI needs to grok the concept of 'consent' a bit better before letting its algorithms run wild with someone's teenage photos. This isn't just a bug; it's a chilling feature of a future we should probably be very, very worried about.

The lawsuit, filed by writer and political strategist Ashley St Clair against xAI in New York City, centers on allegations that Grok-generated images have misused and altered her likeness. Among the most egregious claims is that a photo of St Clair fully dressed at age 14 was digitally modified to depict her in a bikini. St Clair, who identifies herself as the 'mother of Elon Musk’s child' in the legal filing, asserts that these deepfakes constitute a significant violation, highlighting the very real and damaging implications when advanced AI tools are deployed without adequate safeguards and ethical considerations.
