Podium PR: When Athletes Become Mouthpieces
One might think that the primary goal of an athlete is to compete, to push human limits, and perhaps, occasionally, to sweat profusely. But apparently, for Indian athletes heading to the CWG, there's a new, equally demanding event: synchronized public relations. It seems the powers-that-be are less interested in an athlete's personal best and more in their best 'thank you' speech, complete with mandatory shout-outs to the benevolent hands that guide their destiny. Forget personal glory; it's all about collective narrative management, proving once again that even in sports, the loudest cheers often come from the scriptwriters in the backroom.
This directive mandates that athletes, during all media interactions, specifically acknowledge the crucial support provided by the government and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Conversely, a strict gag order prohibits any discussion of sensitive internal team matters, personal sponsorship deals, or confidential information. Further tightening the reins, athletes are explicitly forbidden from using AI-generated content in any public communication and must refrain from discussing travel arrangements, ensuring a meticulously controlled public image that emphasizes institutional backing over individual agency or any potential dissenting voices.
